Christ Church APCM Welcomes New Churchwarden and Gives Thanks for Faithful Service

Christ Church, Sowerby Bridge, recently held its Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM), a key moment in the life of the parish as we reflect on the past year and look ahead with hope and purpose.

A highlight of the meeting was the appointment of Alyssa Callighan as Churchwarden. Alyssa steps into the role with a strong connection to Christ Church and a clear sense of commitment to its future.

A mum and step-mum, Alyssa balances family life alongside her work and is currently working towards completing her Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship. Her journey with Christ Church is deeply personal, having been both baptised and married here.

Speaking about her new role, Alyssa said:
“I have very big shoes to fill, but I’m very excited to take on the role of Churchwarden as I love being a part of the church. I have been baptised and married here and it holds a very special place in our hearts. I want to do my part to help the Church, so others will have the same wonderful experience that we have since we have started attending.”

Vicar, Revd Tommy Daglish, welcomed Alyssa’s appointment, saying:
“Alyssa’s love for Christ Church and her heart for serving others really shine through. I’m delighted she has stepped forward to take on this important role, and I look forward to working closely with her as we continue to grow as a church community.”

The APCM also saw the election of representatives to serve beyond the parish, with Sarah Towler and Angela Wilkins elected as Deanery Synod representatives.

New members were also elected to the Parochial Church Council (PCC), with Helen Pedley and Anthea Gee appointed for three-year terms, and Peter Henry elected to serve a one-year term.

The meeting also marked a moment of thanks for those stepping down from roles within the church. Among them was Graham Lamb, who concluded his time serving on the PCC.

Graham shared his reflections, saying:
“Just to say thank you to everyone that has contributed to my time on the PCC. Three vicars and two interregnums has been an experience I am happy to have been involved with. You’re all a great team and I’m sure you will continue to be a positive group leading our church for years to come. God’s blessings on you all.”

The APCM also noted the conclusion of Peter Henry’s time as Churchwarden after many years of dedicated service, with thanks expressed for his significant contribution to the life and work of Christ Church.

As the church looks ahead, the APCM was a reminder of the strength of its community, the dedication of its volunteers, and the shared commitment to serving Sowerby Bridge with faith, warmth, and welcome.
