In a heartwarming service this morning, our Mother’s Union branch welcomed Revd Tommy as its newest member. The enrolement , which took place during the regular Sunday service, was particularly special as it included a reflection on the life and legacy of Mary Sumner, the founder of the Mother’s Union.
Mrs. Justine Helliwell, our branch leader, expressed her joy and excitement at Revd Tommy’s decision to join the Mother’s Union. “Revd Tommy’s membership is a true blessing to our community,” she said. “His dedication to supporting families and fostering faith aligns perfectly with the core values of the Mother’s Union. We look forward to working together to continue making a positive impact both locally and globally.”
The service also featured a touching reflection on Mary Sumner, who founded the Mother’s Union in 1876 with the mission to support mothers in bringing up their children in Christian faith. Her vision has grown into a worldwide movement that now has over four million members across 84 countries. Today, the Mother’s Union is a powerful force for good, focusing on social justice, education, and the well-being of families.
At Christ Church, our Mother’s Union branch is actively involved in a variety of projects. These include:
-
Supporting Families in Need: Our members regularly organize fundraising events to provide essential supplies to local families who are struggling financially. This includes everything from school uniforms to emergency food parcels.
-
Advocacy and Awareness: The branch is passionate about advocating for social justice issues, such as gender equality and the fight against domestic violence. We partner with local organizations to provide support and raise awareness on these critical issues.
-
Global Outreach: In addition to local efforts, our branch also contributes to global initiatives. This includes supporting education and health projects in developing countries, helping to empower women and children around the world.
Revd Tommy’s joining the Mother’s Union is seen as a new chapter for our branch, bringing with it the promise of even greater achievements in the future. His involvement is a testament to the inclusive and welcoming nature of the Mother’s Union, where both men and women are encouraged to participate in its mission to support families and build stronger communities.
The service concluded with a prayer for the continued success of the Mother’s Union and its work, followed by a warm welcome from the congregation to Revd Tommy.
