Mothering Sunday Service 2025: A Special Day of Celebration and Blessing

This year's Mothering Sunday Service at Christ Church was a truly special and heartfelt celebration. Over 150 candles were lit during the service as part of our "Lighting Christ Church with Love" tradition, honouring mothers and all those who have acted as mother figures in our lives. These candles represented the love, care, and nurturing we have received from those who have supported us, and the sight of the church illuminated with so many flickering lights was a beautiful symbol of the community’s shared gratitude.

Revd. Tommy led the service in a unique way this year by starting in the church tower, where he blessed the new clock motor, which was recently installed after the old one failed. "It was a privilege to bless the new clock motor as we celebrate not only our mothers but also the passage of time and the moments we share as a community. The clock is a cherished feature of our town, and now it will continue to serve as a reminder of our connection to one another," Revd. Tommy said.

After the blessing, the service continued with meaningful prayers, hymns, and moments of reflection. As part of the Mothering Sunday tradition, poses of daffodils were distributed to the ladies in church, a gesture of appreciation for their love, support, and nurturing presence in our lives.

Revd. Tommy reflected, “Mothering Sunday is a time to give thanks not only for our mothers but also for all who have cared for and nurtured us throughout our lives. The lighting of the candles is such a special way for us to express our love and gratitude, and the daffodils remind us of the beauty and kindness that these wonderful people bring to our lives.”

Following the service, we continued the day’s celebration with our Lenten Lunch, sharing soup, bread, and fellowship. It was a lovely opportunity for the congregation to gather together, reflect on the day’s service, and enjoy each other’s company in a spirit of community.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making this Mothering Sunday such a memorable event. From the lighting of the candles to the fellowship of the Lenten Lunch, it was a day filled with love, reflection, and a shared sense of connection.

Christ Church Honours Parish War Heroes

For many years, the names of these heroes have been inscribed on our memorial, a poignant reminder of the price paid for our freedom. Now, thanks to ongoing research and contributions from local families, we’ve added personal stories, service details, and photographs to accompany the names of the fallen. These updates aim to bring to life the memory of those who left home to serve their country and never returned.
